Computed tomography coronary angiography for screening asymptomatic subjects: a bridge too far?

چکیده
ultislice computed tomography (MSCT) coronary aniography (CA) has emerged as a powerful noninvasive iagnostic modality to visualize the coronary arteries and the anifestations of coronary atherosclerosis (1). Many reports ave demonstrated that 64-slice computed tomography CT) CA is a viable diagnostic modality to detect or rule out he presence of significant coronary stenoses, but the precise ole of MSCT-CA in the diagnostic work-up of patients ith suspected CAD in relation to existing noninvasive unctional tests (electrocardiogram-stress test, stress–singlehoton emission CT, or dobutamine echocardiography) is ot yet established, and the technique falls short to replace nvasive coronary angiography.

Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography for Screening of an Asymptomatic Population: Too Much or Too Soon?
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is a global health problem. Many published statistics have shown correspondence of a large disease burden with the economic burden attributed to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Better identification of asymptomatic individuals at high risk for coronary artery disease (CAD) to receive aggressive risk reduction therapy is an important challenge for t...
متن کاملPrevalence of Occult Coronary Heart Disease in Asymptomatic Subjects as Detected on Coronary Computer Tomography Angiography
Background: Current cardiovascular guidelines do not support routine screening for coronary heart disease (CHD). Despite this however screening programs utilizing coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) exist based on the rationale that there is potential for an effective screening program given CHD remains the largest cause of death worldwide. The aim of this study was to estimate the ...
متن کاملCoronary computed tomography angiography as a screening tool for the detection of occult coronary artery disease in asymptomatic individuals.
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of occult coronary artery disease (CAD) with coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) to characterize plaque composition and to evaluate the potential of this new technology to impact risk stratification in asymptomatic middle-aged subjects. BACKGROUND There is a paucity of information regarding the role of CTA for the ...
متن کاملApplication of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography in a follow-up evaluation after coronary stent implantation: A Chinese clinical study
Background: This study assessed the application value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography (CTA) in a follow-up evaluation of patients receiving coronary stent implantation. Materials and Methods: A total of 468 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at our hospital between January 2013 and October 2016 were selected for this study. Coronary angiography an...
متن کاملThe Emerging Roles of Coronary Computed Tomographic Angiography: Acute Chest Pain Evaluation and Screening for Asymptomatic Individuals.
UNLABELLED Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) has been widely available since 2004. After that, the diagnostic accuracy of CCTA has been extensively validated with invasive coronary angiography for detection of coronary arterial stenosis. In this paper, we reviewed the updated evidence of the role of CCTA in both scenarios including acute chest pain and screening in asymptomatic a...
